Lynn Sage Symposium Travel Awards

Made possible by a generous grant from the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Foundation, the Lurie Cancer Center invites fellows and residents to apply for the Lynn Sage Symposium Travel Awards, which will take place in conjunction with the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Symposium.
 
This program provides fellows and residents with the opportunity to attend one of the most respected breast cancer meetings in the country, learn about the latest clinical and scientific advances in breast cancer research, collaborate with esteemed colleagues in the field, and meet breast cancer experts from around the world.

In addition to attending the main symposium sessions, awardees also participate in a forum designed to offer unique perspectives on the different career options available to residents and fellows. Physicians from both the academic and private practice settings will present their experiences, recommendations, and guidance on the career paths available to residents and fellows.

Program Objectives

• Identify key issues to consider when deciding between oncology careers
• Describe characteristics of a successful clinician in academic medicine practice and private practice settings
• Outline similarities and differences of breast cancer research in academic medicine practice and private practice settings
  

Eligibility

A limited number of awards will be granted through a competitive online application process

• Residents and fellows from the U.S. are encouraged to apply
• Applicants must demonstrate an interest in the field of breast cancer (hematology/oncology, surgery, radiation, pathology, etc.)
• Awards will be limited to first-time program participants
• Awardees must be able to attend the entire program (arrival on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 and departure on Sunday, September 10, 2023)
• A letter of support from the applicant’s Program Director or mentor must be received by the application deadline
  

Award Details

• Complimentary symposium registration
• Roundtrip coach airfair to and from Chicago from awardee's home city
• Hotel accommodations for maximum of four nights (non-local awardees only)
• CME credit and symposium materials
• Welcome Reception
• Hospital Tour, Awards Ceremony and Reception
• Awardee Forum (attendance is required)
• Breakfast, lunch, and break snacks during the program

* Upon acceptance, awardees will receive specific instructions on how to book their travel and hotel.

Application Process and Deadline

Complete and submit the online application.

The application deadline is Friday, June 16, 2023. Notification e-mails will be sent to all applicants by Friday, June 23, 2023. Applicants should not make any travel arrangements until notified.

A letter of support from your Program Director or Mentor is required. Instructions for submitting the letter electronically will be sent to your mentor when you submit your initial application to us. Your application will not be complete until your letter is received. All letters must be received by the deadline of Friday, June 16, 2023.

The Foundation supports innovative contributions to the understanding, research, and treatment of breast cancer, in partnership with Northwestern Medicine and the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.
